What is the difference between a power adapter and a charger?丨MSH

Published by admin 2024-07-10

1. Different ingredients

1. Power adapter: It is an electronic appliance for small portable electronic equipment and power conversion equipment. It consists of shell, transformer, inductor, capacitor, control chip, printed circuit board and so on.

2. Charger: It is composed of stable power supply (mainly stable power supply, stable working voltage and sufficient current) plus necessary control circuits such as constant current, voltage limiting and time limiting.

2. Different current modes

1. Power adapter: From AC input to DC output, indicating power, input and output voltage, current and other indicators.

2. Charger: It adopts constant current and voltage limiting charging system. The general charging current is about C2, that is, a 2-hour charging rate is used. For example, a 250mAh charge rate for a 500mah battery is about 4 hours.

Three, different characteristics

1. Power adapter: The correct power adapter requires safety certification. The power adapter with safety certification can protect personal safety. To prevent electric shock, fire and other hazards.

2. Charger: It is normal for the battery to have a slight temperature rise in the later stage of charging, but if the battery is obviously hot, it means that the charger cannot detect that the battery is saturated in time, resulting in overcharging, which is harmful to the battery life.

Extended information

Notes on using the power adapter

First of all, the nominal voltage of the general power supply refers to the open-circuit output voltage, that is, the voltage when there is no load and the voltage when there is no current output, so it can also be understood that this voltage is the upper limit of the output voltage of the power supply.

When an active voltage regulator element is used in the power supply, its output is constant even if the supply voltage fluctuates. If the power supply voltage fluctuates, the output of the power supply will not fluctuate with it.

Generally speaking, the actual no-load voltage of ordinary power adapters is not necessarily the same as the nominal voltage, because the characteristics of electronic components cannot be exactly the same, so there is a certain error, the smaller the error, the higher the requirements for the consistency of electronic components

There are generally several items that need to be paid attention to on the label of the power adapter:

1. It is the model of the adapter. Taking the model XVE-120100 as an example, it tells us several information, that is, its manufacturer, main parameters, etc. The beginning of XVE is generally the ## company code, and 120100 means that this adapter is 12V1A Yes, 050200 is 5V2A.

Second, it is the INPUT of the adapter, which is generally AC100-240V~50-60Hz in China, which means that the adapter can work normally under the AC voltage of 100V-240V.

3. It is the OUTPUT of the adapter, DC 12V=1A, which represents a DC current with a rated voltage of 12V and a maximum current of 1A. Two numbers can quickly calculate the wattage of this adapter. For example, in this adapter, the voltage is 12V*current 1A=12W, which means that the power supply is a 12W adapter.
