Apple release the 1st model 140W GaN charger

Apple 1st time to bring GaN charger for new MacBook Pro, which is 140W.
The 140W USB-C charger is a new power accessory developed by Apple specifically for the MacBook Pro 2021. With the USB-C to MagSafe3 magnetic charging cable, it can achieve up to 140W charging power for 16" MacBook Pro notebooks, as well as 100W PD fast charging for other notebooks using the C to C cable. so you can go from 0 to 50 percent charge in around 30 minutes.  Retail price is $99.
Apple enters the GaN fast charging market!

More than just GaN, Apple also confirmed that the 140W USB-C charger is the world's first USB PD3.1 fast charging source product. MacBook Pro can be charged at either 20.5V or 28V, with a maximum output current of 5A.
Among them, 20V 5A is exactly the standard power range (SPR for short) in the USB PD3.1 standard, and 28V5A belongs to the extended power range (EPR for short) in the USB PD3.1 fast charging standard. Apple 140W cable is a special Magsafe3 interface, currently only 16-inch MacBook Pro can be used, the principle is based on the USB Type-C 2.1 cable standard for power and computer communication.
It is worth mentioning that this charger also supports 9V and 5V output, and the built-in intelligent MCU microprocessor fast charging chip enables communication with devices. Thanks to the high compatibility of the USB PD specification, in addition to supporting Apple's newly released MacBook Pro laptops, it is also backward compatible with the Apple family of iPad, iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, AirPods Max and other devices family  for charging.

What is Industry Significance?
Apple released the GaN charger, the fast charging market ushered in heavyweight players, which will become an important milestone in the development of GaN fast charging.
With the use of GaN, the low conduction resistance and low switching loss of GaN 3rd generation semiconductor can improve the conversion efficiency of the charger, thus reducing the heat dissipation requirement inside the charger. Also, the high switching speed of GaN can support higher switching frequency, thus reducing the size of the charger's magnetic components. The use of GaN reduces the size and weight of the charger by lowering the heat dissipation requirement and reducing the size of the magnetic components.
At present, not only Apple, Lenovo, Asus, Dell, Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO, Nubia, Meizu, etc., many famous notebook and cell phone manufacturers in the world have entered the GaN fast charging, and the performance has been fully verified.
